Patrick Sarsfield, our great Irish Warrior, was a native of Sarsfieldstown which lies between Gormanstown and Julianstown. Previous to 1690 he was driven from his lands and he remained around the place as a Rapparee. When King James was going to the Battle of the Boyne Patrick joined his army and fought with him. He then went to Limerick where he took command of the troops. He died on the 23rd of July 1693. The house where he was born stands near the present house in Elingrove.
